Kelso earned her bachelor of arts degree in journalism and photography from Southeast Missouri State University in 2012. After obtaining her cosmetology license in 2015, she worked behind the chair until accepting her current position as a supplemental instructor with Capella University. She is pursuing her Master's degree in clinical mental health counseling at Capella University and is expected to graduate in March 2025.
